Screen-Printing History: Series 1

This is the first series post covering the history of screen-printing. We believe it is important to learn where and how the process started to fully understand where screen-printing is headed today. Please join us on the journey to discover the roots of America's popular t-shirt.

Screen-printing was first developed in China during the Song Dynasty (960–1279 CE). The remaining Asian countries accepted screen-printing and furthered the process with block printing and paints.

Screen-printing headed next to Western Europe via Asia sometime in the late 1700s, but did not gain widespread use in Europe until silk mesh was available from the east. Profitability was also a concern until this time period.

Screen-printing was first patented in England by Samuel Simon in 1907. Original uses included printing wall paper, linen, silk, and other fine fabrics. Western printers developed business policies in efforts to keep their workshops' knowledge and techniques secret.

2008 Salt Co.Bike Trip

The 2008 Salt Co. Bike Trip is traveling approximately 300 miles from Milford, Indiana to Kings Island near Cincinnati, Ohio during June 14-21, 2008. Nearly 40 people are biking the trek. Their goal is to raise money to purchase bicycles for pastors overseas in India. The Salt Company is the Student Ministry of Wawasee Community Bible Church of Milford, Indiana.

We enjoyed printing shirts for their trip and wish them safety and beautiful weather during the rest of their journey.

Youth Group Shirts

We recently designed (thats right...we'll design shirts if you need help) and printed t-shirts for Jordan Muck youth pastor of Highland Community Church in Illinois.

They love the Genesis design and are excited to wear their new shirts. We're also proud to have Jordan on board as a representative! We just finished a rush screen print order for our new friends at St. Louis University. They ordered 250 shirts for their Gries Dorm (pronounced "greez"). It's not too late to send your last minute designs for your college dorm, hall, fraternity, or sorority.

Softball Shirts

Total Jiu Jitsu

New Process!

We're proud to reveal a new process for our screen printing customers. Our new method combines screen printing with a heat transfer process to make colors brighter and more vibrant, especially on darker shirts.

The Hardwood Store and Rockler Grand Opening Shirts

We just printed shirts for the grand opening of Rockler inside The Hardwood Store. The hoodies, printed on our Brother digital printer, feature a router bit and stylized text, along with the logos of the two companies.

The Hardwood Store has been a premier supplier of hardwood lumber and millwork for nearly twenty years. The addition of Rockler woodworking accessories and products is a great add to the stores already fully featured line of products.

We've been dilligently working on rolling out 18spots newest feature - order tracking and quote messaging.

With this update (expected early next week), those who have requested quotes on 18spots will have a more reliable source to check their prices and communicate with 18spots staff. This new addition to our site will enable users to see preview images, review more detailed quotes, and communicate more quickly with us.

Dance Team: Revelier Officers

We just finished printing The Revelier Dance Team's 3/4 sleeve American Apparel shirts!

The dance team, out of Woodlands, Texas, had their shirts printed with us last week. Shirts for the directors and each of the girls were printed using our Brother digital direct-to-garmet printer, which allowed us to print custom names on each shirt, like "Nibblesworth" and "Bella", just to name a few.

High Water Season

Snow melting due to our recent "heat wave" combined with a bit of rain we've had lately, rivers and creeks are flooding onto roads and fields.

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS COMBINED WITH THE RECENT SNOWMELT HAS CAUSED FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS. ADDITIONALLY...COUNTRY ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS AND STREAMS AND OTHER LOW LYING AREAS ARE IN FLOOD.

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. (via Weather.com)

Coming into work today, I noticed a large amount of water covering our parking area. I drove around to the other side of the building to see this fella, who tried to forge the river underneath the viaduct.

18 spots is slated to print shirts for Fort Wayne's hottest new clothing company - Flavorsaurus Threads.

Flavorsaurus will start with 3 t-shirt designs, printed on American Apparel tees. Their designs are "fresh, like Flava-Flav" and tote the warning "mall shoppers and department store shoppers beware, this isn't for you."

Flavorsaurus will be having a release party at 7pm on March 1st, 2008 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Come by HipHop Studio and check out their funky-fresh-new-merch! Intense Week at My Hall Shirt!

The last few weeks here at MyHallShirt have been intense. We successfully launched our first school - Grace College - and printed nearly 1,000 shirts for them! We've added a new product to our site, and are currently working on a few new features. Even better - we're now on Facebook, via Facebook pages!

Grace College and Theological Seminary had their hall shirt chapel on October 30, 2007. My Hall Shirt had printed nearly all of the colleges apparel for that day - including tee shirts, hooded sweatshirts, zip up hoodies, and baseball tees. We were invited to their chapel and took some great pictures.

We've just set up the Beta site on My Hall Shirt!

Beta is going with the classic 'beta is good.' shirt, set in white Georgia font on a black Hanes Beefy T. Each hall (B1N, B1S, B2N, B2S, B3N, B3S) will be printed on the sleeve, depending on where the resident lives.
